It's no secret the 1983 movie
is now a cult classic.
It's also one of my all time favorites.
I still run into people that just don't get it.
I was taken in by it the first time I saw it -
it was mundane, ordinary, funny
and just dysfuntional enough to be heartwarming.
Coming from from a highly dysfunctional place -
it was NORMAL.
It was a family.
A Mom who stayed home,
Dad who was a regular guy
and the two average kids.
It was everything I was not.
I loved it.
They are normal, average and flawed.
Christmas is sweet and traditional.
I could eat this movie with a spoon.
The pure joy over that ridiculous leg lamp.
The possibilities -
"There could be ANYTHING in there!"
I watch it whenever it's on.
I have my own family now
and I try to give them this
ordinary mundane Christmas.
I think it's working.
Tessa was lucky enough to get
a new Christmas sweater in the mail!
My heart my heart still aches for the families in
Newtown , CT
I know their Christmas will not be mundane.
There is always one more act of kindness to do -
they won't go unappreciated
or the simple act of buying a tshirt
will help to fund a memorial scholarship.
In case you need one more thing for your stocking.
Love and Peace from our house to yours.
XOXO, Patty

Merry Christmas to you and yours, too, Patty. I must admit to getting teary reading this post. It's just lovely. I think you have for sure given your sons the Christmas you know they deserve. That's a wonderful thing. Big hugs to you!

Patty what a lovely and touching post. My heart breaks over the senseless tragedy too.
Looks like your "mundane" Christmas traditions will create long and wonderful memories. :)
It's been ages since I've been online and even longer since I've visited blog-land, but I've been enjoying the company of my youngest daughter (she only comes home once a year as she lives and works in NY city NY) so my time with her is limited and precious. :) Hope you had a truly marvelous Christmas and wishing you a ton of happiness for the New Year. :)
