The handsome guy on the left happens to be my brother in law ( we jokingly call him " The Rock )......the handsome guy on the right is his partner. They both won " Officer of the year" this past weekend and they are both * Heroes * ! We got to go to a dinner to celebrate with him. We also got to meet the keynote speaker which happened to be GLENN BECK !!!
I shoved my husband out of the way* Twice *.....I think he's still mad. In person Beck is low key and quite approachable. He gave a short speech on heroes. I couldn't have agreed with him more.
He noticed one night reading a bible story to one of his children that they did not find the lead character to be a "hero" because he didn't have secret powers or a cape. He asked the room full of police officers if they remember when they were little and the first seed of a dream was in their heads. Perhaps it was to be an officer or a fire fighter - who at the time seemed like heroes. He said enough with sports stars or movie stars - heroes are around us everyday - we just need to recognize them. How true.
The dad that works 2-3 jobs to keep a household running, the mom who stays home with her kids during the day and works night shift, the grandparent who takes in their grandchildren when they have no where to go. Everyday people make extraordinary heroes.
I think this is easy to forget. I want to remind my boys. I don't want them to forget. Heroes are at work everyday - not just when they are paid one million dollars to do so. My husband - who has worked many jobs over the years so that I could stay home with the boys. Who is home every night to have dinner with us. He is our hero !
Who is your hero ?
