My bounty from Once Possessed ! I met my sweet friend Yamina and we perused the goodies and had a quick lunch. The tray is 1/2 of a folding table set. I'm thinking of using it for a decoration - perhaps over the fireplace.
The accompanying legs would be pretty awesome holding up a metal drink tub at a party or even another large tray.
This sweet little mouse I fell in love with when I first took his picture. Luckily he is a doorstop and I can say he actually has a purpose The two artichokes I'm going to repaint and use in the dining room.
We were up at 6:30 am to start ripping out the remnants of our bathroom. This bathroom is directly above the Little Boys Dirty Laundryville which is still apart because we have a few pipes to move. Half ripped up - the tiles and cabinet had been hooker red / orange when we moved in and of course I had spray painted them ( did you know they make industrial floor strength spray paint ??? ) . We are remodeling this bath and taking out a weird closet behind it to make it larger. It looked like this . That picture is covering a gigantic hole I uncovered after ripping down an ugly cabinet. Thought my husband was going to kill me for that one ! Ironically he didn't say anything until I asked him. He replied he wasn't upset because the hole looked better then what had been there ! LOL !!!
Now it looks like this !
Now it will double in size and have a heck of alot more storage : ) . What are you up to this weekend ?
Have a Fantastic weekend , Patty
Traveling through my town I've seen this shop hundreds of times and always wanted to stop in. The other day I actually did and what a treat !
Once Possessed is a petite antiques and consignment shop with a little bit of everything and a dash of vintage Tea Parlor. The owner Melody is welcoming and bubbly and her shop is full of vintage and consigned eye candy.
My quick peek stole away everything from rustic chic birdhouses to time pieces to furniture and chandeliers !
I can't believe I haven't stopped in sooner !
Of course I want one of everything !!!
Melody - the owner - got her love of antiques from her Mom. They had always dreamed of opening of opening a little store together full of antiques . Sadly Melody's mom was killed in a car accident. The accident gave Melody the impetus to move forward in her moms memory and make their dream come true. I say she has done a smashing job !
How fantastic is this vintage cigarette stand ? Can't you just see this as a shabby chic umbrella stand ? How about this blanket chest ? Once Possessed has treasures big....
.......and small !
Melody is having a two day barn sale this Friday and Saturday 9:00 - 3:00 pm both days. Once Possessed is located at #1 Sawmill Rd in New Fairfield, Ct. She will have tons of stock on display from her storage barn . I can't wait - stop by and say *Hello* ! She's got a pretty handsome mascot too !
Happy Friday and have a fantastic weekend !
I felt pretty good about Thursday. I had plans. My blog was written the day before and I had the rest of the week laid out. I had my bag laid out to reconfigure. I felt organized. I was a fool.
The day started out pretty awesome. One of my best est friends was coming over for a little breakfast. I made two of these.
...and since it's both our favorite some homemade french toast.......
All was well ( for me ) until my oldest got off the bus. The bus stops almost smack in front
of the house so I can hear it and can usually time his arrival thru the door. I kept waiting and waiting........thinking maybe he had missed the bus I peeked out the window. The poor guy was hobbling down the hill and across the lawn !
The day before I had taken him to a dentist appointment mid day and tried to return him to school. I pulled in the parking lot , opened the door and he was gone. Rolling around on the parking lot pavement ! The poor guy had tripped over the doorway and landed on the ground. Like his mother ( for some unknown reason I laugh when I am in pain) he was hysterical. We went in to the school nurse ( who probably thinks we drink early in the morning) and he ended up coming home with me. The next morning he said it was bothering him but didn't want to miss another day took an Advil and left.
Walking into an orthopedists office for the third time in a month ( which isn't embarrassing at ALL ) . Of course it was the same receptionist. Of course I had to ask if they offered Frequent Faller Miles. I have to once again give it up to Ortho Prompt we were in and out in 45 minutes ! The proud new owners of more Ace bandage, two new shiny crutches and a spanking new splint.
The moral of the story ? Don't get too full of yourself ! LOL
Have an awesome weekend, Patty : )
I don't know how it works for other people but for me being creative starts with an image. Take the laundry bags from yesterdays post. I saw them in the store , saw the size on the cover and immediately saw the finished product in my head. I see the "seed" then the "whole project" usually pops into my head done. Sometimes this works - sometimes it doesn't. The middle part is always what I have to figure out . Sometimes I buy something because I like it and later find a use for it. Sometimes I put it in the cart and take it out before I get to check out. Sometimes I bring it back after I take it home realizing what is in my head is not going to transfer into a reality Sometimes I go back and get it ! LOL......
I saw this bust and loved it for it's table top size and it's antique style. I don't however really like the wire work. It's hard to display jewelry on these and taking pictures on these things really looks like a mess to me. However the minute I saw it I thought of the cream colored book pages I had at home and how awesome they would look together.
I've been wanting to do some paper mache for awhile. I really wanted to use one of my favorite products Linit liquid starch but suddenly cannot find this anywhere . If anyone uses this feel free to drop me a hint ! It's great in a spray bottle diluted with water to straighten clothes out ( I almost never iron) but its really great to use for stiffening paper ! Strike one. I decided to just try good old Elmer's Glue and water because it really works for just about anything.
So I have my book pages and glue wash and assumed I could just wet the paper, let it set up for a few minutes and set it over the wire. I planned to wrap it around the bust - gluing pages to themselves and Voila ! NOT. The paper did not want to stick to anything !
It took quite a bit of patience and repetition to even get ONE PAGE to stick . In the end it seemed best to place a base layer and even as this was drying I would go back and brush the exterior to form and shape the drying paper. This did not work the way I thought it would and I really had to force myself to keep at it as I really wanted to throw it out the window ! The point is it will pay off. I am happy with where I have gotten. I am glad I pushed myself and didn't do what I do a lot and put it to the side to wallow in the *Land of Unfinished Craft Projects*. The glue takes awhile to dry between layers so I will make sure to show you this when I've finished.
I think I can...I think I can...I think I can......
I have a pile I need to revisit and chip away at. So what do you do with your projects that don't work out as planned ? How do you think creatively ? I'd love to know !
Happy Thursday !!!
So these are the 3 Laura Ashley laundry bags I got at Homegoods for $ 4.99 each. I saw the colors and size on this and immediately thought " pillowcase". They are all cotton on top of it. So this is what I am picturing all I need to do is shorten the "hem" and they would slip right in.
The best part of this sort of thing is 90% of the sewing is done ! Now I am debating which I like best. I also have been holding on to a Ralph Lauren sheet which looks like this.
I suppose I could even combine the two as I have 3-4 large pillows ( gotten at Marshall's on clearance ) to potentially cover. Maybe 2 large pillows in red and 2 smaller pillows in the Laura Ashley........ Hmmmmm......what do you think ?
This should match too. The back was unscrewed so I found some screws and refit the back. The design originally went around the sides but was ripped so I painted it - who is going to see the sides anyway ? - for $3.99 I'm pretty happy with it .
What's the point ? Look around you - I hear so many people say they " aren't creative " when really they haven't tried. Take a look at what you have or share with a friend . We often trade things that we no longer find useful but maybe just right for someone else ! So many things have another life especially tablecloths, sheets, napkins, pillow cases and laundry bags. I can't afford a whole Ralph Lauren set ( although you never know ) but my red sheet was about $2.50 on clearance ! A little bit goes a long way . I won't lie it does take patience and perseverance but I actually enjoy the hunt...........so what are you looking to score ?
Happy Wednesday ! Patty
